Here are a number of frequently-asked questions that we get:

 

How much personal time will it take?

In addition to weekly rehearsals throughout the year, there is one annual shows in July. We also participate in a Sweet Adelines regional competition in  April each year, and have semi-annual regional weekend retreats to focus on learning the craft of barbershop singing. We tend to perform in and around our area about 10 times per year for local events, business events, charitable events, as well as participating in Holiday and Memorial events.

 

What is the cost?

When you come in to check us out, we charge a one time only, $5 for music fees.  When you join us, there is an initial payment of $90 for Sweet Adeline's International yearly dues, $25 for Regionional dues, and a one time fee of $100 for all costumes and $45 for shoes.  After that, the only thing you pay is $25 a month.  That $25 includes all SAI, Regional and Delmarva expenses.  We are now working on a fair share program, that helps to minimize costs.

 

What is the audition procedure?

 

When you think you are ready to audition, you will pick two songs.  A quartet of women will join you and you will sing with the quartet.  You will not be alone. You will have group support singing with you. 

 

Do I have to be a great singer?

If you love to sing, that's the first step. You do not have to be a great singer.  If you sing in a group and people walk away from you, you may not be a singer.  If you sing and dogs howl, you may not be a singer.  If you sing and babies cry, you may not be a singer.  But if you sing and can carry a tune without any of the above happening, you may be a singer.

 

How do I learn the songs?

Everyone learns differently.  You do not have to read music to sing with us.  In fact, 75% of us, do not read music.  We learn by practice at chorus, by tapes, by written music and help from the Music Team.
